In Dumbledore Class we have lots of fun and laughter! On this page you will find our class news and lots of interesting pictures showing you what we have done.
For additional information on what happens in Year 5, please see the attached information which was shared during our Meet the Teacher meetings. If there are any additional questions, feel free to come and speak to either Mrs Bushell or Miss Hackwood on the playground :)!

Additional Important Information:
In Year 5, our school day begins at 8:40am and finishes at 3:00pm.
Children can bring a named water bottle which needs to contain only water or squash.
Children can bring a small healthy snack with them to school to eat at break time such as: fruit or raisins.
On Tuesday and Thursday the children can order a piece of toast as a break time snack for 20p.
Your child will also be given a reading book specific to their reading level. We would like the children to read as much as they can at home and record this in their reading record.
PE Days:
Every Monday and Thursday
Homework:
All weekly homework will be related to the children's learning from the week. This will include English, Maths and Spelling homework.
All homework will be set on a Friday and should be returned to school by the following Friday.
Each half term, the children will also receive a homework grid of curriculum based activities. They must complete a minimum of three activities from the grid and bring them into school. We are looking forward to seeing your creativity!
Reading Challenge:
We are holding a reading challenge again this year! Every time you read, write it in your reading record. For every comment, you will earn a point. When you reach 45 points, you will be awarded the Bronze Level; when you reach 90 points, you will be awarded Silver Level and for 135 points, you be awarded Gold Level!
There is also a Platinum level when you read over 50 books!

Mathletics, Spelling Shed, TTRS and Purple Mash:
Children can access these websites from home. Each child has an individual username and password. Mathletics is an excellent resource which allows children to practise their mathematical skills. Times Table Rock Stars encourages recall of times tables and Spelling Shed will help the children with their weekly spellings!

Caring and Kindness Award
A huge congratulations to these children in our class who have achieved the 'Caring and Kindness' award for how they treat other children all of the time whilst being at school.

Musician of the Month -

Creative Inspire
On Monday 22nd May, Year 5 invited their adults into school to join us for an art lesson. We practised a range of clay techniques including coiling, kneading, slabbing and making a slip. We had a lot of fun getting our hands dirty!

Mental Health Awareness Week
During the week beginning Monday 15th May, we completed a short mindfulness activity each day for Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme for the week was 'anxiety' therefore we looked at: breathing techniques using a breathing stick, created our own positive bookmark, made a coping fortune teller and created our very own 'worry pet'.

Walk to School Week
During the week 15th-19th May 2023, we were all encouraged to walk to school each day!
Well done to these children in Dumbledore class who walked to school every day this week!
King Charles III's Coronatiom
On Friday 5th May, Reddal Hill celebrated the Coronation for King Charles III. Dumbledore class all came to school wearing beautiful red, white and blue clothes. We created our own mug designs which can be printed and purchased to commemorate the occasion. In the afternoon we had a picnic, listened to a range of King Charles' favourite songs and took part in a quiz all about the Royal Family.
We all had a 'royally' good day!
Eid
Year 5 created some beautiful cards to wish their friends and family a happy Eid!
Earth Day
To celebrate Earth Day, each year group chose a different country and geographical feature to focus on. In Year 5, we learnt all about Iguaza Falls in Aregentia. We worked in groups to find out lots about the tourist attractions there, the seasons, the climate and the wildlife. We created eye-catching informative posters and then presented our findings to the class.
Easter Egg Hunt
On Friday 31st March, we had a very 'egg-citing' treat! We took part in an Easter Egg Hunt and worked together as a team to see if we could find all of the Easter Eggs!
British Science Week
We celebrated British Science Week from Monday 13th March - Friday 17th March. The focus for Science Week this year was 'connections'. Our key question in Year 5 was:
'How are sea creatures connected?'
We spent the week researching and learning about a range of sea creatures. We looked at the different oceans which they live in, their food chains and what different families they all belong to.
We also found out about endangered sea creatures and created a persuasive poster encouraging humans to 'Save Our Seas!' Have a look at some of our fantastic poseters!
On Thursday, we designed our very own sea creature. We gave it a name, decided which sea it would live in, created its food chain and classified it into a family group.
We then did some junk modelling and brought our sea creature designs to life!

World Book Day
To start our celebrations for World Book Day, Year 5 had a lovely afternoon on Thursday 2nd March listening to a live storyteller read the magical story: The Bookkeeper. We joined hundreds of other primary schools across the country to enjoy this story together.
On Friday 3rd March, we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day. The whole class looked amazing and we were really impressed with the effort everyone had gone to.
During the day, Year 5 completed a range of activities related to our current class read:
Stig of the Dump.
We created some Stone Age drawings and worked as a team to make cave out of spaghetti and sweets.
What a fantastic day; well done Year 5!
International Day for Women and Girls in Science
On Friday 10th February, we celebrated International Day for Women and Girls in Science by taking part in a STEM challenge. We worked in teams to build a bridge out of paper and tape which can hold as much weight as possible. Well done Dumbledore class; you all worked well as a team!

Children's Mental Health Week
On Friday 10th February, we celebrated Children's Mental Health Week. The theme was 'Let's Connect'. We spoke about how we are connected to each other in a number of different ways and created a paper chain in our tables to demonstrate this.
Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday 7th February, it was Safer Internet Day! During our computing lesson this week, we designed beautiful posters about how to be safe online, completed an A-Z of all of the aspects of the internet and social media and then we wrote down any questions or worries we had about being online. Well done Dumbledore class; your posters looked amazing!
National Story Telling Week
To celebrate National Story Telling Week, some children in Dumbledore class went to visit our afternoon Nursery children and read them a story! It was so lovely for the Year 5 children to share their love of reading to some of our younger pupils.
Chinese New Year
In our RE lesson this week, we celebrated Chinese New Year! We learnt all about the special time and researched information about the 'Year of the Rabbit'. We then created some rabbit artwork. Well done, Dumbledore Class! Your rabbit sketches were amazing!
Christmas 2022
Christmas Week 2022 has been amazing! We have completed so many different Christmas activities and had the most fantastic week!
Here is what we got up to:
*We took part in Christmas Jumper Day and raised a fantastic amount of money for charity
*We had breakfast with Santa and watched Nativity
*We made amazing Christmas cards
*We had a fun-filled Christmas STEM afternoon where we made water rafts and paper trees

*We used pipe cleaners to make a range of Christmas crafts for the Christmas tree
*We had the most joyful afternoon singing Christmas songs in our Carol Concert
*We watched Elf with snacks which was amazing
*We had a brilliant Christmas party with games and food

Harry Meredith: Football Rising Stars
On Wednesday 23rd November, we participated in a Zoom webinar with Harry Meredith to discuss his new books!
We played a game first where we had to guess the footballer, we listened to a paragraph from his book about Marcus Rashford and then we had a question-and-answer session where we learnt lots about his inspiration and how he became an author!
A fantastic session; well done Year 5!
Anti-Bullying Week
On Friday 25th November, we took part in a lesson linked to Anti-Bullying Week.
We discussed how to be kind to others and that we need to treat others how we would like to be treated ourselves!
We then produced a 'High Five Sign' to remind ourselves how we can prevent bullying from happening. Well done Year 5; they looked amazing!
World Cup: England vs Iran
On Monday 21st November, we watched the first England match of the World Cup 2022. We went into the hall and watched it on the big screen! Some children also stayed in the classroom and created lots and lots of World Cup crafts to celebrate the World Cup.
Well done everyone; what a brilliant afternoon of sport!
Children in Need
On Friday 18th November, we celebrated Children in Need. We all came to school dressed in Pudsey merchandise or spots! Everyone looked amazing!
We decorated bookmarks and lollipop holders to take home! They looked fantastic!
What a brilliant day!
Road Safety Week
On Wednesday 16th November, we completed an activity to learn all about how to be safe on and around the roads. We looked at the different road signs and then played an interactive game to see if we could guess the correct sign!
We then created our 'Road Sign Flower' to remind us how to keep safe on the roads!

Parliament Week
On Tuesday 15th November, we participated in a lesson all about parliament, the government and prime ministers to celebrate UK Parliament Week. We watched a video all about how parliament works and then discussed the most recent prime ministers of our country!
We also had our very own democratic vote to choose two school councillors and an eco-council member! A huge congratulations to the winners of the class vote!
Odd Socks Day for Anti-Bullying Week
On Monday 14th November, we all wore odd socks to school for Anti-Bullying Week. We watched a video in assembly all about good friendships and listened to the anti-bullying song!
Well done Year 5; your odd socks looked brilliant!
Diwali
In our RE lesson on Wednesday 2nd November, we learnt all about Diwali - the Festival of Light! We spoke all about the traditions of the celebration and what happens on this special day. We learnt that during this festival, it is common for people to make colourful designs on the floor in their house, to serve as a welcoming gesture and bring good luck. These patterns are called Rangoli. We had a go at colouring in Rangoli patterns and some of us even designed our own!

Stone Age Experience at Frank Chapman
On Monday 31st October, Year 5 went to visit the Frank Chapman centre to take part in a day all linked to the Stone Age! This will be our History topic for this half term and we had a fantastic day learning a range of information all about it!
We participated in a range of activities such as: making clay pots, building shelters, making fires and throwing Stone Age weapons!
It was such a brilliant and exciting day; well done Year 5!
Black History Month
To celebrate Black History Month, we discussed and looked at a range of key figures from Black History who had an impact in how people were treated. We found out that these key figures did so many amazing things to ensure that everyone was treated equally!
We then looked at our key figure, Guion Bluford, who was the first African American person to go into space with NASA!
We researched key facts about him and then wrote them up on his space shuttle!
Fantastic work Year 5!
On Thursday 20th October, we all came to school dressed in red clothes to support the campaign 'To Show a Red Card to Racism'.
Here we all are in our red clothes! Well done for supporting the cause Year 5!
World Mental Health Day
On Friday 14th October, we celebrated World Mental Health Day!
We discussed what mental health means and how we can use different methods to help us to stay positive when we need to the most!
We created a profile of ourselves with our faces on one side and everything we love to do on the other side! This was to remind us that when we are feeling low, we can complete one of our favourite activities to help us to feel calm and happy again!

Haden Hill's 100th Birthday
To celebrate Haden Hill turning 100 on 21st October 2022, Year 5 children were given the fantastic opportunity to work with an artist who came into school to deliver a very exciting project. The children were asked to design and create banners which will then be used to decorate the Haden Hill House Musuem on this very special occasion. Well done Year 5; you all worked really hard!
Children's University
This year, Year 5 are starting Children's University!
This is where additional activities that we do outside of school can earn us stamps so that we can achieve different awards and graduate from the Children's University!
We all achieved our first stamp today from a Lego STEM club where we built our own university!

Languages Day
On Monday 26th September, we celebrated Languages Day!
We went into the hall and learnt a range of languages all linked to different objects!
We learnt the French, Spanish, Italian, German, Swedish and Deutsch words for elephant, banana, reading books, mouse, house, computer, apple, school, orange, dog, cat and writing books! We then completed a sheet to show the new words that we learnt!
During the afternoon, we learnt some Japanese words and looked into how symbolic the cherry blossom trees are in the country. We created our own cherry blossom trees and put them up on display!

Fun Day
On Friday 17th July, Reddal Hill participated in Fun Day to celebrate all of the hard work the children have put in during this academic year. Year 5 enjoyed watching a film, doing some colouring, having an ice-cream, climbing on the wall bars, going on the bouncy castles, competing in sumo-wrestling suits and playing on the racing cars.
We all had such an amazing day; well done Year 5!
Behaviour Champions 2022
To celebrate all of the amazing behaviour that we have at Reddal Hill, many of our Year 5 children participated in our Behaviour Champion Trip!
We had children who achieved Gold for showing fantastic behaviour all throughout Year 5! These children spent the day at Haden Hill Park and were treated to an ice cream from the ice cream van when they all returned to school!

Clay
On Friday 1st July, we created an Ancient Maya sculpture using the clay techniques which we have been working on during this half term. Have a look at some of our amazing creations!
Sports Day
On Thursday 30th June, all of Year 5 participated in Sports Day! We went onto the playground in our house teams and competed in a range of events: 50m sprint, 100m sprint, Hurdles, Relay, Javelin, Spotput, Long Jump and Speed Bounce. We had a fantastic afternoon! Well done everyone!
Healthy Eating Week
On Friday 17th June, we completed a healthy eating activity to remind ourselves about the importance of eating healthy, staying hydrated and participating in exercise. We looked at the Eat Well Plate and designed a meal which was healthy, balanced and delicious!
Bug Hotel
On Friday 17th June, we took part in a very exciting eco workshop. We completed lots of eco related games and got the opportunity to make our own bug hotels. We can't wait to put these in our gardens!
Queen Jubilee Party
Walk to School Week
During the week 16th-20th May 2022, we were all encouraged to walk to school each day!
We all completed five different levels:
Level 1 - To walk to school with friends or family.
Level 2 - To understand that walking to school reduces the number of cars on the road.
Level 3 - To understand that walking to school boosts our health.
Level 4 - To understand that walking to school is a simple way to reduce pollution.
Level 5 - To learn how walking benefits ourselves, our communities and our planet.
Well done Year 5! 12 of us walked to school every day!
Children's University
On Tuesday 3rd May, Year 5 had the amazing opportunity to spend the day finding out what it is like to be a university student as part of the Children’s University programme. We explored the Wolverhampton campus and saw different lecture rooms, sport facilities, the canteen and the student’s union.
We took part in two different activities throughout the day. We had a Lego workshop where we found out about a range of different university buildings such as academic buildings, the library, the sport centre, the student’s union and halls of residence. We then recreated these buildings using Lego to create a Lego University.
We then completed a STEM activity all about virus and diseases. We learnt about the different ways in which viruses and diseases spread and what we can do to prevent them from spreading. We looked at how germs can easily spread through the use of touch and talked about the importance of washing hands frequently and thoroughly.
We all had a fantastic day and it sparked a lot of inspiration and aspiration for our future.
Easter Egg Hunt
On Friday 8th April, we had a very 'egg-citing' treat! We took part in an Easter Egg Hunt and worked together as a team to see if we could find all of the Easter Eggs!
Ancient Greek Day
On Thursday 7th April, Year 5 had a very special visitor who taught us loads of interesting, exciting and fun information all about the Ancient Greeks to round up our history topic. We took part in an interactive Greek myth and solved challenging puzzles in groups. We then hunted for fun facts which were hidden around the hall to answer comprehension questions about what Ancient Greek life was like. Finally, we took part in some Olympic Games and competed against each other. We all had a fantastic day; well done Year 5!

Year 5 made some lovely Easter cards and Easter wreaths for their families this week.

Science
This half term, in our science lessons we have continued to test the properties of different materials. On Tuesday 29th March, we learnt about irreversible changes. We completed an experiment where we mixed bicarbonate of soda with white vinegar which produced carbon dioxide. This was an irreversible change because it couldn't be undone. The children loved watching the balloon be inflated by the gas which we produced.
DT: Baking
On Tuesday 29th March, we followed our adapted recipe to bake honey muffins as part of our 'Greek Food' DT topic. We measured, melted and mixed our ingredients and carefully spooned the mixture into cake cases ready to be baked. We did an amazing job and they tasted amazing! Well done Dumbledore class!
Olympian Visit!
On Wednesday 23rd March, Jaydon Paddock visited our school to host an assembly. He spoke about how to always try your best, have high dreams and never give up! He showed us videos of his gymnastic 'tumble' competitions and even did a live demonstration of a backflip!
We joined in circuit training with him! We had to star jump, press up, mountain climb and perform lunges for a minute!

Science Week 2022
Monday 14th March - Friday 18th March
For our topic during Science Week, Year 5 looked at how human population growth over recent years has caused a rise in climate change. We discussed the effects of temperatures heating up and sea levels beginning to rise which ultimately threaten low-lying areas and therefore we have seen an increase in flooding over recent years. We explored which material would create the best type of flooring to protect against flooding. We completed a range of experiments and activities throughout the week to try to answer our key question and to help us to design our own type of flooring.
Red Nose Day
On Friday 18th March, we came to school dressed in bright colour to help raise money for Comic Relief. We all looked fantastic dressed in brightly coloured clothes!
Litter Picking
On Wednesday 9th March, we were extremely lucky to have some lovely volunteers to come into school to talk to us about how we can look after our planet. We were given some litter pickers and in small groups we worked hard to tidy the playground. We made sure we placed the rubbish which we found into the correct bins by sorting them into glass, plastics, tins, paper and general waste. We spoke about ways which we could recycle more at home.

World Book Day
On Friday 4th March, we celebrated World Book Day. We came to school dressed as our favourite book characters. The whole class looked amazing and we were really impressed with the effort everyone had gone to.
To celebrate 25 years of World Book Day, we took part in a scavenger hunt where we were set a challenge to find 25 book covers which were hidden in the playground.
Every class in the school looked at the book 'Mirror' by Jeannie Baker which is a two in one picture book showing a parallel day in the life of two families: one in a Western city of Sydney, Australia and one in a North African village. It highlights the similarities and differences of these cultures and lifestyles.
Year 5 took part in a quiz which got them to think about the landmarks, money, food, clothes and flags of these two countries. We then got creative and collaged the two flags.

Children's Mental Health Week
On Friday 11th February, we recognised Children's Mental Health Week. We recapped our knowledge which we learned about in our assembly this week and completed some mindfulness colouring. Well done Year 5, they look amazing!
Safer Internet Day 2022
On Friday 11th February, we participated in Safer Internet Day!
We discussed different games that we play online and understood the correct choices to make whilst playing these games.
We then took part in a Safer Internet Day quiz!
Well done Year 5; you are now experts at being safe on the internet!
Chinese New Year

Martin Luther King Day
On Monday 17th January it was Martin Luther King Day. We attended an assembly which celebrated Martin Luther King and his beliefs in equality and freedom.
We talked about his famous 'I have a dream' speech and we thought about what our dream would be. Have a look at some of our ideas below.
Christmas Week
In the build up to Christmas, we had an amazing Christmas Week in Year 5!
We completed our Maths and English Christmas Activity booklets!
On Monday, we created Christmas cards for our families. Well done Dumbledore Class they look fantastic!
On Tuesday, we had Breakfast with Santa. We ate some delicious food and even had a visit from the man himself!
We then had our Christmas dinner with our friends. We enjoyed sitting with friends, pulling crackers and telling jokes.
We also made our calendars for 2022! We were so impressed with how they turned out. We hope you like them as much as we do.
We made some cute Christmas crafts using pipe cleaners!
On Wednesday afternoon, we had a super fun party. We set the tables up beautifully using the placemats which we decorated earlier in the week and we wore our Christmas hats which also made. We had lots of fun talking and eating with our friends.
We also played some party games. We had prizes for the winners and for those with superstar dance moves! Well done to Megan and Lawcel for winning musical statues.
Well done to Joseph and Lacey who won our pass the parcel prizes!
On Thursday afternoon we watched a live pantomime of Jack and the Beanstalk. We enjoyed singing and dancing along with the cast.
On Friday we had a Christmas Quiz. We chose our teams, gave ourselves a quiz team name and worked together to answer the Christmas related questions.
Well done to 'The Mistletoe Girls' for coming first place!
We then played with our toys.
We also completed some Christmas STEM activities where we built a waterproof raft for Santa's reindeer to cross the lake. We were given a range of different materials and objects and worked in teams to see who could build the best raft.
We tested the rafts on water to see if they could hold a present without sinking. We were all successful! Have a look at our creations below...

PTA Christmas Party
On Friday 3rd December, we came to school dressed in our best Christmas party clothes! In the afternoon, we played some party games, listened to some Christmas music and shared some yummy food with our friends.
PANTS
On Tuesday 30th November, we had a discussion about PANTS. We started off by completing a jigsaw of different pants to find the different reasons as to why it was so important.
We discussed the acronym for PANTS and how important it is to understand that we need to keep our private parts private and that we need to speak to a trusted adult if we feel worried about anything.
We then produced our own pair of PANTS to remind us of the acronym.

Children in Need
On Friday 19th November, we all came to school in our 'Dress Up' outfits to celebrate and raise money for Children in Need!
We created a Pudsey money box, bookmark and coaster to celebrate the amazing charity which all look fantastic!
A brilliant way to highlight the importance of Children in Need; well done Year 5!
Have a look at our fancy dress costume winners. Macey had the funniest costume, Rayyan's was the most creative and River-May won overall best dressed. It was so hard to choose because there were so many brilliant costumes. Well done to everyone!
Road Safety Week
From the 15th November to 21st November, we took part in Road Safety Week. We discussed what road safety is and how we could make sure that we are being safe when on the road. To showcase our learning, we created a road safety poster to inform others of how they could stay safe when crossing roads. Take a look at our wonderful posters!
Talk Money Week
On Friday 12th November, our maths lesson was based on Talk Money Week. We were learning about money and the role that it has in our lives. During the lesson, we learnt about and completed activities based on the coins and notes that we could use to make a given amount of money and how to budget. Take a look at some of the work which we completed.
Diwali
On Thursday 4th November we recognised the celebration of Diwali. We learnt about rangoli patterns which are bright, colourful and beautiful designs. They are placed to welcome the Hindu Goddess Lakshmi - the goddess of wealth - to your house and are thought to bring good luck.

Show Racism the Red Card!
On Friday 22nd October, we all wore red to school to support the charity 'Show Racism the Red Card!'
It is a brilliant cause to recognise and support so well done everyone for taking part!
Behaviour Champion Trip
On Tuesday 19th October, we took the behaviour champions on a trip to Haden Hill. We had a brilliant time playing, climbing, having fun with our friends. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the amazing behaviour of these children last year.
Black History Month
October is Black History Month. We spent some time learning about a range of inspirational black people and what impact their actions have had on the world. We researched Rosa Parks, Barack Obama and Mae Jemison. Have a look at some of our fantastic posters we created below celebrating these amazing people.
Languages Day 2021
On Tuesday 28th September, we celebrated Languages Day by participating in a workshop in the hall where we learnt six different languages for twelve different nouns. We looked at French, Spanish, German, Italian, Swedish and Dutch.
We then came back to the classroom and completed a match up activity about everything we learnt in the hall. We also designed some amazing posters to show off our learning!

Additional Important Information:
In Year 5, our school day begins at 8:50am and finishes at 3:00pm.
Children can bring a named water bottle which needs to contain only water or squash.
There will not be any toast provided at break time however children can bring a small snack with them to school to eat at break time such as: fruit or raisins.
The children can come to school on a Wednesday and Thursday dressed in their PE kit with suitable footwear. PE will be outside on the playground.

Homework:
Homework will be sent out at the beginning the term. It will contain a range of activities. The children need to complete one activity per week.
Mathletics, Times Table Rockstars, Purple Mash and Spelling Shed:
Children can access these websites from home. Each child has an individual username and password. Mathletics is an excellent resource which allows children to practise their mathematical skills. Spelling Shed is a brilliant website where the children can practise their weekly spellings.

Sports Afternoon
On Wednesday 13th July, Year 5 had their Sports Afternoon. We all enjoyed an afternoon of taking part in lots of sporting activities including shot put, discuss, javelin, long jump, triple jump and a range of different running events. We had a fantastic afternoon. Well done to everyone who took part and tried their best. A massive congratulations to our winners!
Olympic Day
On Friday 2nd July, we took part in an Olympic Day. We learnt all about the Olympics and took part in some very fun activities.
We completed a writing activity where we wrote our own diary entries imagining that we were about to compete in the Olympics for the very first time. You wrote some fantastic diary entries; well done Year 5!
We then took part in a creative activity where we designed our own Olympic stadiums and Olympic kits. They looked amazing Dumbledore Class!
We also took part in an Olympic workshop where we played a range of Olympic sports including: archery, rowing and athletics. You all worked so hard and showed excellent determination Year 5.
To end the day, we had a dodgeball tournament. We all had so much fun!
What an amazing day we have had; well done Year 5!
National Sports Week
Starting on Monday 21st June, we are celebrating National Sports Week!
The theme for the week is to celebrate Sir Tom Moore by completing 100 minutes of exercise throughout the week, 100 reps of an activity each day and 100 seconds of a different activity each day.
We have got our wall charts up on the wall ready to go, to see who is able to complete the Sir Tom Moore challenge!

Musical Rock Star Day!
On Monday 21st June, we celebrated Musical Rock Stars Day by coming to school dressed as amazing rock stars!
We started off the day by creating our own back stage pass with our photo on!
We then created our own 'Musical Snakes and Ladders Times Table Game' where we adapted the original idea of Snakes and Ladders and included mathematical questions which needed to be solved in order for someone to win! They looked amazing everyone; well done!
After break time, we then wrote our own 'We Will Rock You' song, titled 'We are Reddal Hill!' The children worked in groups to write their own verses before producing their own props to use in their performance. Each group came to the front and performed to the instrumental of the song! We have got so many rock stars in our class; amazing performances everyone!
After dinner time, we produced an amazing musical instrument piece of art work where we used pencil crayon to colour in an instrument and felt tip pens around the outside!
They looked brilliant; well done everyone!
What a fantastic day Year 5!
Euros 2021
From 11th June to 11th July, we will be celebrating and following the Euro 2021 tournament!
We have put up our wall chart and fixtures so that we can follow the games, looked into the different countries participating in the tournament and researched about the different players and what country they are playing for!
In one of our PE lessons as well, we will be participating in a football tournament and penalty shoot out with the winner receiving a prize!
What an amazing month of sport it will be! Come on England!
Easter
Dumbledore Class have used their artistic skills to create beautiful Easter wreaths which they can put up at home to decorate the house. Have a look at some of the fantastic wreaths we made!

Red Nose Day
On Friday 19th March, we celebrated Red Nose Day by coming into school in brightly coloured clothes so that we could brighten up everyone's day! We all had a fantastic day!

Science Week
Between Monday 8th March 2021 and Thursday 11th March 2021, we have been celebrating British Science Week. The theme for this year is 'Innovating for the Future' so we have been focusing on our key question: What is the best type of flooring to protect against flooding?
We have completed a range of experiments and activities to try to answer our question. To finish the week, we designed our own new type of flooring and took part in a Dragon's Den activity to try to 'sell' our flooring. Take a look at some of the pictures from our week.

Internet Safety Day
To participate in Internet Safety Day, we have completed a range of activities this week to understand how to stay safe on the internet!
We discussed what Internet Safety Day is and completed a quiz about what we should do in different scenarios! We then produced a poster to remind ourselves how we can always stay safe and what we need to do if we feel worried about anything!
Well done Year 5; your posters are bright, colourful and include very important information!
Chinese New Year
To understand the celebrations of Chinese New Year which begins on Friday 12th February, we discussed the traditions which are celebrated for this festival. We used our knowledge to participate in a quiz and then we made Chinese Dragons!
They look brilliant Year 5, well done!
PSHE - Express Yourself
During the week beginning Monday 8th February, we discussed Children's Mental Health week and how we all are individual and unique!
We discussed 'What makes you, you?', completed a quiz about understanding what to do if we need to talk to people about how we are feeling and then completed an 'Express Yourself' sheet too! We also created a piece of art work to 'express ourselves'!

Christmas Week
Monday 14th December - Friday 18th December
This week we have had lots of fun! On Monday, we made our calendars for 2021! We were so impressed with how they turned out. We hope you like them as much as we do.
On Tuesday, we made some lovely Christmas pictures which show a snowy scene with decorated trees. Have a look at our creations below.
We also created Christmas cards for our families. Well done Dumbledore Class they look fantastic!
On Wednesday, we started our day with Breakfast with Santa. We enjoyed our morning feast and saying hello to Santa.
We then had Christmas dinner with our friends. We enjoyed sitting with friends, pulling crackers and telling jokes.
On Thursday, we had a super fun party. We spent the morning preparing for it by making crackers and party hats. We set up the table up beautifully using the placemats which we decorated earlier in the week.
We had lots of fun talking and eating with our friends.
We also played some party games. We had prizes for the winners and for those with superstar dance moves!
On Friday, we held a class quiz. There were loads of different rounds such as an Observation Round, Name the Film Round and Identify the App Round. It was really fun! Everyone worked really well as a team and it was lovely to see the team spirit in the classroom. Well done to 'The Tabby Team' who got 40 out of 45 and therefore are our quiz winners!

Christmas Jumper Day
On Friday 11th December, we all came to school wearing our Christmas jumpers!
We brought in a donation and looked wonderful and festive in our Christmas outfits for the day!

Christmas Card Competition
For Christmas this year, James Morris set his annual competition of designing a Christmas card. We worked really hard and sent some amazing cards to him to see. There were over 750 entries from a range of children from lots of different schools. We are so excited for Roquai in our class whose design was chosen as this year's runner up!!!
Well done Roquai, you should be so proud of yourself!
Diwali
In RE, we learnt all about Diwali - the Festival of Light! We spoke all about the traditions of the celebration and what happens on this special day. We learnt that during this festival, it is common for people to make colourful designs on the floor in their house, to serve as a welcoming gesture and bring good luck. These patterns are called Rangoli. We had a go at colouring in Rangoli patterns and some of us even designed our own!

Remembrance Day 2020
For Remembrance Day this year, James Morris asked schools in Sandwell to produce some art work to remember the different Poppy Day we had this year.
We all designed our own Poppy Day pictures and sent them to James Morris.
He was extremely impressed with our designs and mentioned us on his social media.
