Wednesday

In this session the children are going to develop their understanding of estimation.

Write down a list of objects on the activity sheet. Then select a small object in the house to weigh them against them.

For example- cubes, paper clips, counters, coins etc.

How many cubes will it take to balance a banana?

Write an estimate (mine is 16 cubes) then weigh the banana and equivalent cubes to check your estimate.

If you have any weighing scales, balances at home, you can weigh each object to see if their estimation was correct. If you don't have any scales, use your hands as a balance. Also identify the heaviest and lightest.

Watch a video of Mr Wilkes explaining the activity and an example is given below.
