Previous Years
Our PE Curriculum
This year, at Reddal Hill Primary, we have adopted a new Physical Education Curriculum. This follows a scheme of work from 'Complete PE'. Our PE lead and Senior Management Team have worked together to carefully select a wide range of Physical Education lessons for each year group. Each class have both an indoor and an outdoor focus lesson every half term. See the overview below.
A full, detailed overview, showing week by week learning intentions, will be uploaded very soon.
If you would like further information about the PE curriculum, please come and speak to Mr Benningfield (PE lead) or Mrs Whitehurst (Curriculum Lead)
Alongside the new curriculum, we are also working closely with RB Gym and Sport to help us deliver high quality gymnastics lessons. Each year group are scheduled to work alongside the highly qualified and specialised coach for a complete unit of work. During this time, the coach will also work closely with the class teacher to promote CPD opportunities.
A free after school gymnastics club, will also be available for the pupils in the year group receiving the coaching support.
Playground Leaders
At Reddal Hill, we have now fully implemented our very own 'Playground Leader' scheme.
Two pupils from both of our year 6 classes and two pupils from our year 5 classes have been specially selected to become our first 'Playground Leaders.
There Job:
Our Playground Leaders, attended a training afterschool club in order to hone their skills and learn their new role.
The leaders received a Reddal Hill branded logo (kindly created by our own Mrs Baker) and a Playground Leader badge
They are doing an amazing job!
Year 6 Football
Some of our year 6 boys took part in a football tournament ran by another local school. We played some brilliant football and scored some amazing goals. On a few occasions the boys fought back against the odds to earn valuable points in key games. We came up against some very strong teams but were able to work together and encourage each other during the event.
Well done boys!!
Gymnastics
This year, we have been very lucky at Reddal Hill to have a new Gymnastics coach. Our new coach has worked with all year groups and has completed an afterschool club with each year. Our pupils have really enjoyed gymnastics this year.
Below are some examples of our gymnastics lessons this year.
Year 6 Athletics
Our year pupils took part in a Sandwell wide Athletics competition. This took place at the Tipton Leisure center.
We took part in a wide range of events including track events and field events. Some of the events where in pairs or teams of 4 and some of the events where individual events.
There were 17 different school present at the event, so we had alot of competition.
We are proud to say that out of 17 school we managed to finish 4th. What an amazing achievement.
Well done year 6!
Dance After-School Club
We are very lucky at Reddal Hill as one of our teachers is also a very talented dance teacher. This half term Miss Hannington has delivered a dance afterschool club to a range of pupils across year 4, 5 and 6. They have learned so much about tempo and feeling in the music.
Year 6 Football
Mr Benningfield and Mrs Southen took the year 6 boys to compete in a boys football competition at the West Bromwich Albion indoor Dome.
We competed in a league against other schools from around Sandwell. The competition was very strong this year but we scored some great goals and worked great as a team.
The boys were very resillient and represented our school excellently.
Year 5 and 6 Boys' Football
Our year 5 and 6 boys were given the opportunity to represent our school in a 'school game' football tournament and The WBA Dome.
With Mr Benningfield and Mrs Southen the boys developed a game plan. We won our first game 2-1, followed by a couple of close games ending in a 0-0 draw. We then played a very strong team who were top of our group. The boys worked and defended incredibly well, and with some swift counter attacking play, we managed to win 2-1.
The boys made it all the way to the Quarter finals before unfortunately being defeated via a penalty shootout to the eventual winners.
The boys really did our school proud, they played with heart and passion and gave everything in each game.
Well played boys!
Year 4 Dance Workshop
We have been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to have a specialist dance coach from St Michaels Secondary school visit our school and deliver some amazing dance sessions with our year 4 pupils.
Over the three sessions the dancers learned all about how to change movement depending of the tempo and rhythm of the music. They also used different styles of dance in order to create a performance. The pupils used expression, jumps, poses and lifts in order to up-level a dance routine and perform to their peers.
We certainly enjoyed these sessions and year 5 are extremely lucky as they will have the opportunity to learn all about dance next half term.
After School Clubs
Football
Year 5 and 6 have been taking part in a football afterschool club with Mr Benningfield this half term, with a goal of entering a football competition at the end of the term.
As we know football is a skill based sport however, we have mainly focused on the tam work and the communication skills that are imperative to creating an excelling football team.
We have learned how best to communicate when on the pitch as well as encouraging our team mates and praising them for good play.
This excellent communication has not only helped our awareness on the pitch but aided us in developing our style of play. With quick movement and precise passing, we will undoubtedly be very tough to beat in the competition.
Tennis
Year 1 and 2 complete a five week after school club with Mr Benningfield with a focus on tennis schools.
We learned how to hold a racket and how to use our forehand and backhand to play different types of shots, as well as playing a multitude of games targeted to improve our racket skills.
Our favourite game was called 'Party time'. In this game we have to balance the ball on the racket while being given different instructions, such as , jump on the spot and sit on the floor, the goal is to keep the ball on the racket without it falling off. It is very hard put it really improved our skills. When Mr Benningfield shouted 'party time!' we were allowed to try to knock other people's tennis ball off of their racket.
Year 5 and 6 Girls' WBA football
10 of our girls from years 5 and 6 took part in a girls football event held at the WBA Dome.
The girls showed an excellent attitude and competitive spirit throughout the event. They played some incredible football and displayed an outstanding sporting personality.
The girls had an excellent day competing and playing football. We will certainly be entering the event again.
Well done girls!
