Elections

Every new year, we hold our School Council Elections and each of the KS1 and KS2 classes elect two representatives to become part of the school council. When you are elected you receive a school council pin badge for you to wear during the school day. This way everyone knows who you are and who represents the student voice.

Being a school councillor is a very responsible position as you have to have a lot of sensible ideas and sometimes have to do things in your lunch times. It is your chance to play an important part in our school community.

What is a School Council?

A school council is a group of pupils who are elected to represent the views of all children to improve their school.

What do we do?

  • A school council meets to discuss and sort out problems and ideas.  These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events/ fun school events. We have a PTA who listen to our ideas and organise our events.
  • Come up with ideas to help improve the school and make decisions.
  • Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning charity events and putting forward views of other children in the school!
  • We look carefully at British Values and how we can promote this around the school.

Glossary

  • We are very professional in the council so we use a lot of business words. Hopefully this will help.

Agenda - a list of things to talk about.

Councillor - someone who has been voted for to work for their class mates on the school council.

Minutes - the notes taken during a meeting so people can see what goes on

Motion - an idea for the council to discuss.

Have you got any ideas?

If you have any ideas you would like to share, please send an email and we will discuss these at the next School Council Meeting! Thank You!
